If you want to slow down the signs of aging, a consistent skincare routine is definitely the way to go. Beautiful skin takes time, commitment and consistency. Customizing a regimen for your skin’s needs and making sure that you do it daily will have you well on your way to slowing down fine lines and wrinkles.
Since consistency and patience are the keys to success, create a routine that is easy and one that you will do. Sort of like exercise!
Test products, methods and application techniques. Use only the ones that leave your skin feeling nourished and hydrated.
What comprises a Fabulous Midlife Skincare Routine? Glad you asked. Here are the 5 Steps to your most radiant skin and a few things to look out for when picking the right product for your routine:
5 Steps for a Consistent Skincare Routine
Cleanse
First, you need the right cleanser to wash off every bit of the oil, dirt and makeup that has been sitting on your face for the whole day. Be sure the product is intended for facial cleansing and not a bar of soap or body wash. These can be too harsh for the delicate skin on your face.
Here’s what you don’t want – a tight or dry squeaky clean feeling. This is typically a sign that you have stripped away your skin’s natural protective barrier and have left your skin too dry and vulnerable to the environment.
Instead, try products that are gentle and made for your type of skin, preferably organic, clean and cruelty free. I have linked a few of my favorites here. They are all organic, gentle and affordable.
Tone
A gentle toner needs to be applied right after cleansing to recalibrate the skin. It soothes and balances your skin’s pH levels and removes any remaining impurities. Furthermore, it gets your skin ready so you can apply the remaining products in your routine. Most toners contain ingredients that replenishes the skin of its lost moisture and nutrients.
Preferably you want a toner that leaves your skin hydrated, reduces the appearance of pores and deeply moisturizes your skin
Eye Cream or Gel
Soothe and hydrate your delicate eye area with a soothing eye cream or gel. Ideally you want one that is fast absorbing and non-irritating. One that also destresses your eyes is fabulous for this delicate area.
Remember only use your ring finger and light tapping. And don’t forget your eyelids!
Serums
Serums will take your skincare to the next level. Think of it as going the extra mile for radiant skin. Serums are highly-concentrated, lightweight formulas that penetrate deeply into the skin therefore effectively addressing your skins issues.
Vitamin C Serum helps with lighten and brighten your skin
Hyaluronic Acid helps to sooth and hydrate
Rentiol helps to firm and lift the skin
All of the serums listed above help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles as well. Use vitamin C and hyaluronic in your morning routine and retinol at night.
Among all skincare products, serum’s are your best bet for amazing skin. They do what they claim to do since they are designed to absorb quickly and penetrate deeper into the skin delivering high concentrations of active ingredients right into the skin’s cells.
Mositurizer
The most common beauty tip you hear is to be religious about using a moisturizer. Applying moisturizer after each cleansing will prevent your skin from drying out, keeping it nourished, plump, smooth and hydrated.
Look for a moisturizer that is best suited to your skin type. Don’t make the mistake of not choosing the product that fits the skin you have. If you have oily skin, look for lightweight moisturizers that are oil-free. If your skin is dry, thick hydrating creams can help lock in long-lasting moisture more effectively.
Pro Tip for Your Skincare Routine
Here’s a great tip for you that will enhance the soothing effects of your eye cream and further enhance depuffing…keep it in the refrigerator. As a matter of fact, there are several skincare products you can keep cold including your moisturizer, vitamin C serum – pretty much anything that helps to soothe, depuff or destress your skin. There are even beauty refrigerators that fit on your bathroom counter like this one! It’s on my Christmas list.

I hope that this information helps you realize that consistency is the key when it comes to skincare. Real results do not show up overnight. Best to be patient and stick to your skincare routine daily. It’s only way to achieve real, visible results!

I think most people skip the toner thinking they don’t need it. PH is one of the most important things to try and manage for optimum health. Great post Kim!
I used it off an on for years. Then stopped for awhile. Started back up several years ago! It definitely makes a difference.
