The best frozen drink recipe for Mango Lime Daiquiris. I can’t think of a better way to cool off with the “dog days” of summer upon us than a frozen drink?  Slushy, cold and complete with a little umbrella!

But first, I wondered about the meaning of “dog days” of summer and where the saying originated from so I did a little research and here’s what I found:

WHY ARE THEY Referred to as THE DOG DAYS of Summer?

Did you know that Sirius, the Dog Star, is the brightest star in the sky next to the Sun, and it stems from the Ancient Greek work seirios meaning scorching?  The dog days of summer happen to coincide with the rising of Sirius.  In ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt, people believed that the dawn rising of Sirius combined with heat of this super bright star and the Sun  caused the extreme temperatures and the sweltering heat.

Today, the appearance of Sirius does not really affect seasonal weather here on Earth, but its appearance during the hottest part of summer makes the ancient lore around the star live on today!

According to the Farmer’s Almanac, the 40 days between July 3rd and August 11th are the hottest and most humid days of the year and not fit for man or dogs!  They are however fit for cold, fruity drinks.

Cool Off with a Frozen Drink

My hubby and I decided to have an impromptu cocktail party on our deck since we got a reprieve from the extreme temperatures 85 instead of 95.

We quickly made a mini charcuterie tray with grapes, water crackers, cheese and hot pepper jelly.  Then we go busy making this yummy frozen drink recipe! And it’s super easy too!

The Charcuterie Tray

Mango Lime Daicquiris – Makes 2 Tall Frozen Drinks

4 cups of Frozen Organic Mangos

2 oz white rum

2 oz coconut rum

11 oz of coconut water

Juice of 1 lime

Add all the ingredients to your blender.  Put the lid on and blend away.  In a matter of minutes, you will be slurping down this tasty cold concoction!

My super cute drink glasses have been around for quite a while.  I have linked a few in my Amazon Store if you are in search of some fun summer drinking glasses.

Cheers to you
