Every woman deserves to have youthful radiant skin. The kind of skin that glows, is healthy and dewy. As we mature, our skin can get dry and lose some of its youthful appearance. Fine lines begin to appear. But there is hope for all of us. With a few ingredients in our products, we can keep our skin looking healthy, radiant and oh so touchable.
Collagen
What is collagen? Collagen is the most abundant protein in our bodies. It is found in our skin, muscles, tendons, bones, blood vessels and our digestive system. As we age, our bodies tend to make less and less of this awesome protein. Lack of collagen is responsible for sagging skin, wrinkles and achy joints.
The benefits to our skin from collagen include better elasticity and the look and feel of firmer skin. Your skin will be smoother and show less cellulite. Your skin will also be moist, your skin cells will renew on a normal regular basis.
Where do we get collagen? Beef, chicken, fish, egg membranes and supplements. I use a supplement to ensure that I am getting enough collagen to help my skin. I use a grass-fed organic beef powder from Perfect Supplements. I put 1 scoop in my coffee each morning. Now you’re probably thinking that’s weird and it will taste funny. Collagen has no flavor so you can add it to lots of things like smoothies, muffins, soups and your coffee.
Collagen has many other health benefits. For an in-depth look at collagen, click here.
Hyaluronic Acid
What is Hyaluronic acid? First, we will call it HA for short! HA is a clear, lubricating substance that’s produced by the body naturally. HA is found in the skin, inside joints, within the eye sockets and in other tissues where it helps retain collagen, increase moisture, and provide elasticity and flexibility. (See how that works with collagen!!). Score for using both! HA is a powerful humectant (moisture binding ingredient) that keeps your skin moist and plump.
What does HA do for your skin? HYDRATES it. HA reduces wrinkles. HA reverses free radical damage and has some UV protection benefits. I use both a moisturizer and a serum that each contain HA. My skin looks radiant and feels amazing. I also apply a small amount to my lips. HA is found in your lips and by applying HA to the lips will help keep them supple. Retinol
Technically Retinol is Vitamin A. It helps with wrinkles and sun damage. It strengthens aging skin and improves the appearance of fine wrinkles. Retinol (Vitamin A) attaches to all skin cells and gets them to act like younger healthier cells. I use it on my arm, hips, legs and belly. What I love about retinol body lotion is its ability to soften the skin without being greasy. I have noticed that my skin looks healthier, more supple and has more spring to it.
Water
I cannot stress the benefits of water for all sorts of health reasons. But when it comes to your skin, getting enough water each day is critical for the way it looks and feels. Drinking enough water each day will give you youthful and healthy-looking skin. Drinking water is the most anti-ageing treatment for your skin. Without water, you skin will be prone to drying, flaking and wrinkling. Water helps to increase the elasticity of your skin, flush out toxins and prevent sagging. (I am drinking as I am typing). 8 to 10 glasses per day is recommended but with water, more is better for the skin!
Sleep
Lack of sleep can wreak havoc on your body and especially on your skin. It can make existing skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis worse. Without deep sleep, the body is unable to repair damaged skin cells. During sleep, the hydration in your body rebalances. Without enough sleep, the water in the body will be unbalance leaving your with puffy eyes, dry skin and more wrinkles. Get your ZZZ’s. 7 to 8 hours each night.
Exercise
Exercise is another ingredient that can keep your skin glowing. Sweating helps to push the toxins our of your system. Working out also helps maintain healthy levels of the stress-related hormone cortisol. Too much cortisol can also cause the collagen in the skin to break down which can increase wrinkles and sagging. Exercise supports the production of collagen which helps to keep your skin firm, supple, and elastic. During your workout, you getting an amazing does of oxygenated blood that gives your skin the healthy after exercise glow. Get out there and take that walk or run. It will do wonders for your skin.
Having great skin is as easy as incorporating these ingredients into the products you use and incorporating them into your life. Next time you are search for a new moisturizer, make sure it has HA, retional and/or collagen in it. Try a collagen supplement. When you are reaching for a drink, think about the benefits to your skin from water. Get your sleep and exercise. Your skin will reward you with a youthful, radiant glow with less fine line and wrinkles!
For a good life after 50,
